In the 1960s, supercars were voluptuous wrought aluminum bodies, with supermodel curves, organic shapes that seemed sculpted from marble. But in Italy there was a new generation of designers working around the clock on radically new ideas that seemed to come straight from the future. Thus began the era of otherworldly 1970s concept cars that were basically chocks on wheels, all corners and edges with skins stretched between them. The roof height was lowered to sill level, you practically sat on the floor, the windshield and bonnet shared the same plane. Always with a V12 beast that seemed to scream right behind your head. Many of these concepts are forgotten by most people, but in the 1980s one of them became the poster hanging on every kid's wall. It's hard to understate the influence these cars have had on popular culture, not just in automotive exteriors, but also in science fiction films, fighter planes, speedboats, and many other recognizable shapes in our lives. UFO is our celebration of dreaming big and radical change.
